Biography:
Aarti Chabbria was born in a Sindhi speaking family on November 21st, 1982. She started her career as a fashion model, and appeared in arguably hundreds of advertisements for brands including Amul, Crack Cream, Farex, Freshna, Liril etc. She started off her career as advertisement model for Farex at the age of three. Besides these, she worked in Music the albums, Nasha Hi Nasha with Sukhwinder Singh and Tera Chehra with famous pop singer and keyboard player, Adnan Sami, in the song, Ruthe Huae Ho Kyun. Aarti speaks Sindhi, Marathi, Hindi, Gujarathi and English with fluency. She also has a brother named Gurinder singh sandhu. who presently lives in United states of America. Aarti stepped into the glamour world as a model (Krack cream, Amul, Freshna), before moving on to music videos. Nasha hi nasha hai done for Sukhwinder Singh is one of them.
She started modeling as a toddler; she featured in the poster ads of ‘Parle-G’ and many other big brands.
Aarti’s dad is a doctor and her mom is a homemaker. Aarti has a younger brother and the entire family resides in South Mumbai.
At a young age of sixteen, Aarti participated in the Miss India Worldwide competition and won the pageant.
She started her film career with the film Lajja in the year 2001, but didn’t get noticed much. But she was cast as the lead female in the film, Tumse achcha kaun hai (meaning, “who is better than you”), and so, it is still believed to be her first film. Though the film was not a hit, Vikram Bhatt signed her up for his new project, Awaara Pagal Deewana, which was released in 2002. She worked alongside a number of top actors in Bollywood, including Govinda, Fardeen Khan, Sohail Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Tushar Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor and Akshay Kumar, over a period of nearly eight years. But so far, she has not been blessed with a commercial success, that could give her a much coveted break. But many moviegoers and film reviewers believe that she is a very gifted artist, and has potential and versatility to play good character roles. “I went through an audition to get this film”, says the blue-eyed beauty. She also starred in the flick Raja Bhaiyya opposite Govinda. But Tumse Accha Kaun Hai still remains closest to her heart being her first film.
Aarti was back on the modeling block and bagged some big TV commercials. Director Raj Kumar Santoshi spotted Aarti in one of her commercials and offered her a role in ‘Lajja’; despite being a short role, Aarti accepted it as it was a great opportunity to work with a renowned director on a multi-starrer project.
Aarti’s next was ‘Awara Pagal Dewana’ in which she played a tomboy; it was this role that gave this newcomer an opportunity to display her histrionics and she was appreciated for her performance.
Aarti has no qualms about hailing from a non-filmi background. No godfather, no problem. “I was born to act. No one can deny me that. Movies are fun. You get to live so many different characters, you work with good-looking men, and you travel to the best places. And you get paid too!” she guffaws.
About working in a Kannada film Pritisonaba, Aarti says, “People in the South are really organised. Initially, I did have problems with the dialect, but as the shoot progressed, I learnt.”
Chhabria is a big fan of Abhishek Bachhan. “He is a good actor; I hope he gets the right break. I would love to play the role of Urmila in Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya. Five years hence, I would like to see myself as an established actress,” she says.
Aarti had the childhood dream to be an actor, though she does not hail from a family with any ties to film industry. Singing, playing tennis and swimming are her hobbies
Aarti is not only famous in Bollywood, but is also a superstar in the South Indian movie industry. After lying low for a couple of years, Aarti is back and she has some good projects backing her; first is ‘Milenge, Milenge’ with Kareena-n-Shahid Kapoor followed by Sanjay Gupta’s ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ in which she will be seen portraying the famous bar dancer Tarannum. When it comes to signing movies, Aarti believes on focusing more on quality rather than quantity.
